Privacy Policy for Marinepedia
Last updated: 23 August 2025
Marinepedia (the “App”) is published by the Marinepedia team (“we”, “our”, or “us”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices regarding that data. This policy applies to the Marinepedia Android app (package: com.sumanjay.marine), and to any services or pages directly provided by us.
1. Data we may collect
We may collect the following categories of information:
- Device & Usage Data: device model, operating system, app version, crash logs, performance metrics and diagnostics collected by tools such as Firebase Crashlytics.
- Identifiers: advertising identifiers (ADID) provided by Google Play Services, and other non‑personal identifiers used for analytics and ad targeting.
- Network & Content: URLs and content requested by the app (for example, notices and PDF files fetched from public websites) and any content downloaded or cached by the app.
- Payment & Purchase Data: purchase tokens, order IDs and basic purchase metadata when you use Google Play Billing inside the app. Note: actual payment processing and card details are handled by Google Play and not stored by us.
- Crash Reports & Diagnostics: stack traces, device logs and relevant runtime state captured by Crashlytics or similar services to diagnose and fix problems.
- Optional User-supplied Data: if you contact support, we may collect the data you provide (email address, messages).
2. How we use your data
- Provide and maintain the app’s features (displaying notices, rendering PDFs, navigation).
- Process purchases and subscriptions via Google Play Billing.
- Display ads and measure ad performance (using Google Mobile Ads).
- Diagnose and fix problems using crash and analytics data.
- Send optional notifications and in-app messages (Firebase Cloud Messaging / Firebase In-App Messaging) if you opt in.
- Prevent abuse, enforce our terms, and comply with legal obligations.
3. Third-party services & sharing
We use third‑party services that may process your information. Key providers include:
- Google Play / Google Billing — handles purchases and subscriptions. See Google Play’s privacy documentation: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) — serves ads and may use advertising identifiers and other signals for ad personalization. See AdMob privacy: https://support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543.
- Firebase (Crashlytics, Messaging, In-App Messaging) — collects crash reports and analytics. Firebase privacy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
- Libraries used by the app — e.g., PRDownloader, Glide, Jsoup for HTML parsing and downloads. They operate under their own policies; we only use them to implement app functionality.
We will not sell your personal information.
4. Ads and analytics
We may show ads in the App via AdMob and collect ad performance and device info to optimize delivery. You can opt out of personalized ads via device settings or Google ad settings; note this does not stop ads but prevents personalized targeting.
5. Purchases
All payment processing is performed by Google Play Billing. We only receive purchase tokens and related metadata needed to activate or restore premium features. We do not store your full payment card information.
6. Data retention
We retain diagnostic and usage data for a limited time to improve the app and to comply with legal obligations. If you request deletion of your account data (where applicable), we will remove it subject to any legal retention requirements.
7. Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect the information collected. However, no security measures are perfect; we cannot guarantee absolute security of data.
8. Children
The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
9. Your rights & choices
- Access & Correction — contact us at marinepedia@gmail.com to request access or correction.
- Opt-out of marketing — follow the unsubscribe instructions in messages or contact us.
- Ad choices — manage ad personalization via Google settings: https://adssettings.google.com.
10. International transfers
Data may be processed in countries where our service providers operate. We take reasonable steps to protect data across borders.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; we’ll post the new policy here and update the “Last updated” date. Significant changes will be notified in the app or by email where feasible.
